This is an example of a station teaching lesson I created for use in a co-taught social studies classroom. This lesson meets the needs of various different learning styles such as visual, audio and hands on. It also paces each station with the integrated timers.
This is a sample lesson plan that goes with the Cold War station lesson above. I designed this for a co-taught class room. Each lesson contains pre-assessments and each mini-lesson focuses on student centered activities leading to engaging and enriching educational experiences. Each lesson also ends with a summative assessment in the form of an exit ticket to gather further data for future lessons.
The New York Sports Talk Club is a club that I proposed to the Smithtown Board of Education. It was incredibly successful and gave students of all backgrounds an opportunity to discuss and participate in a sports activity. I modeled it to take place after the famous WFAN radio station and sports talk shows such as Mike Francessa. I was also able to use this club to promote argumentative debate where students had to support claims with with evidence. I used this this to cross over into the social studies classroom. Prizes were given at times for winning contests, and the club had a Super Bowl party which was well regarded. SiriusXM agreed to come visit, unfortunately COVID-19 took away that opportunity.
This is a World War II unit presentation for self contained students. Each day begins with an Aim and Do Now to assess prior knowledge. Group work is an integral part of promoting problem solving and collaborative work among students. Each lesson ends with a summative assessment for the day in the form of an Exit Ticket. Lessons are infused with videos for visual learners and regents questions to check for understanding at points of the lesson.
